To my knowledge, there isn't any kind of respectable literature deciphering the differences between the myriad of Asian cultures. Most discussion about this subject usually hides behind private conversations are maybe even internet chatrooms. White-dominated America will continue to classify us into a large lump of people known as "Asian-American", yet how can a Japanese live the same lifestyle as a Laotion? We Asians know that the differences between us are vast, but what are they really? So here, in this pathetic article, I'm going to try to classify each group. Most of my knowledge is based on stereotypes, but isn't life all about stereotyping? Of course when you get to the core of it, we are all HUMAN and that's what matters (yadda yadda blah blah), but you gotta admit, it's kind of fun poking fun at different asian cultures (especially if it's not yours). So the reason why I'm making this anonymous is so that I won't have like the KSA, VSA, CSA, and whatever other student organizations are out th ere to hunt me down and beat the crap out of me. Hey, i'm not saying MY ethnicity is in any way superior (if anything, i dog on it the most), so please try to read with an open mind. Oh, and I don't know about Indians because to me- they are in a world of their own.
Chinese/Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, Cambodian, Loation, Vietnamese, Filipino, Hmong
Chinese/Taiwanese
According to some study, Chinese-Americans make up the most populated asian
group in America. They're the oldest group here, originating back to the
railroad workers. So now, in the 90's, there are 2 basic groups of Chinese (or
Taiwanese, WHATEVER): the white-washed kind that have lived here for quite a
long time (like their parents don't speak Chinese), and the FOB kind where the
parents DO speak Chinese. The Chinese-American culture doesn't have many
distinctive qualities, probably becasuse there are so many divisions of it.
Chinese guys are generally not known to be attractive and as for the gals:
they're all butt nasty except a small handful who are absolutely gorgeous.
They are known to have the smallest eyes out of all the groups and the
thinnest. Parents usually own some kind of restaurant and are pretty well-off.
They are semi-materialistic, but when they're rich- they're freakin LOADED.
This means an Armani-filled wardrobe, bimmers, cell phones, the whole
enchilada. Many Chinese like kickin g it with Koreans and some are even
"wanna-be Korean". Chinese people are pretty much mellowed out and don't like
to start trouble. For fun, many kick it at cafes. China-fied cities in include
Arcadia, Monterey Park, all Chinatowns, and Irvine.
Japanese
Since the Japanese also have a long history in America, most of them were
raised here (including their parents, and sometimes, grandparents). Most of
them are pretty white-washed and fall into 3 groups. The first group, the
TOTAL twinkies, are those who are practically ashamed of their heritage and
are seen with white people only. The second, the asia-fied ones, are still
white-washed, yet are into the "asian scene". They're pretty cool and everyone
seems to get along with them. The third type, the Japanese FOBS who either
grew up here (yet parents grew up in Japan), or the big-time FOBS who just
look like freaks of nature (dyed hair, weird clothing, crooked teeth, etc).
Most Japanese people are generally rich and are scattered all over the nation.
Japan-afied cities include Torrance, Gardena, J-towns, and a few others.
KOREAN
This is probably the most stubborn, hard-headed, and high tempered group. They
are one of the newer asian races in America so practically all of them are 1.5
generation (their parents grew up in Korea). They are all rich, super-
materialistic, and condescending of other races. When friends with a Korean,
that person will be a friend for life, but if you have a Korean enemy, it's
just over for you. Most Korean parents own liquor stores, discount stores,
cleaners, restaurants, all of which are in the ghetto. Most of them go to
church, but this doesn't exactly indicate that they are good christian
girls/boys. The ones that are, are major church freaks, gets good grades, and
is active in school. A lot of Koreans go clubbing in K-town, drinking,
noraebang (karoake), and more. All Korean girls look exactly the same with
their black clothes, dyed hair, and surgery eyelids. Koreans and kick it with
Koreans and if they don't, then that person is deemed an outcast by the Korea-
fied group. They have an obsession with speaking in Korean to each other even
though they're not really that fluent in it.......
